Contributing to documentation

Contributing to documentationI would much rather if people contributed to the "official" documentation. I understand this requires some familiarity working with git, but this way everybody benefits. Every time I start to work on documentation, I get pulled back into the real world and it falls off the to-do list again - sometimes for months. It's something I do when there's nothing more important, but in my case nearly every day something more important pops up.
Yeah, "some familiarity working with git" is currently a problem for me. I suspect it's a problem for other people too. I really ought to learn how to do this, but right now git confuses the heck out of me.
What I'd like to see is a place where we can assemble drafts of help files without needing git, and then one or more people can volunteer to be editors who "do the git thing" to put material into the official documentation. This group can be that place, if enough people want it to be. Or someone can create a wiki. But I think we would benefit from creating an easier way for more people to contribute to the docs.
